Curriculars

Intro to Ohio Honors: This is where it all began. I was a freshman tring to get his bearings in an unfamiliar environment with a program I did not fully understand. Here, I learned about the three pathways, and how to start using them to view my school and community around me.

OHP Engagement Lab: This class was the first  co-curricular experience in my OHP career. We worked with an Argentinian nonprofit for women and children; specifically advising organiszating them to internationalize their advertising campaign. This was my first time working with individuals of a different natonality with vastly different cultural perspectives and lived experience. Moreover, this was my first project of the sort in any case, and it was defintielty a class that needed active listening and thoughtful followup.

Intro to Ethical Research: I began this class  having started working as a research assistant the followign spring, and complteted several CITI certifications for medical and psychological research. I wanted to learn more about how to be a comptetent and ethical contributor to the research Iw as doing, and to that end, this class taught me about the responsibility researchers have to maintain the upmost transparenct, something I took into the lab with me.

Democracy in action: Exploring Student Civic Engagement: This class was a major foray down the Civic Engagement pathway. In this class, I did tabling to help students sign up for absenteee ballots, and informing them of election resources in Athens County. This course allowed me to converse with people much more politically savvy than myself, and gave me more resources to better digest the information I am consuming.

Back to the Wilds: Adventures in Restoring Nature: Here was one fo the few trips I have been able to take as a student at OU. This class took me on a weekend trip to the Wilds where we were able to learn about species conservation projects being done to preserve endangered savanna species. More immediately, I learned about the threats facing wild spaces in Appalachia, and what can be done to preserve what is left.

Professional and Clinical Ethics for Healthcare Professionals: This was the one honors class I did outside of OHP. In this class, I learned about several fo the most central dilemmas in modern healthcare, and was encouraged to engage with them critically. This class forced me to ask and answer some difficult and often charged qiestions regarding things like patient autonomy, and what constitutes human life. These are all topic germane to my career aspirations, and I enjoyed the exerciese in the class for the practice that they were.
